5. OKE OGUN BAPTIST CONFERENCE 2024 ANNUAL REPORT BY REV. GABRIEL O. OLANREWAJU, PhD (Conference President)
Introduction
We are grateful to God Almighty for His graciousness to us as a Conference. We appreciate Him for His continued blessings and presence in our local Churches, Associations, and conferences at large.
Evangelism & Mission Activities
We thank God for the outreach at the Ayegun Wasimi Border in 2024. As earlier reported, we were aiming to have a Mission Field at the Ayegun Wasimi Border, as there was no Baptist Mission in that area. We thank God for our presence this year. We equally thank God for the lives of those who went and the success of the outreach.
Saki Ayo Igbala and Saki Orisun Iye Baptist Associations’ efforts cannot be overlooked, as they are engaging in Fulani ministry, which is another fruitful mission effort. Our Missionary Organisations, the Men’s Missionary Union and the Baptist Women’s
Missionary Union and their various organs are doing great exploits for the Lord in reaching souls for Christ. A new pastor has been called to the Mission Church of the Men’s Missionary Union at Kotogiri to replace the one who left for another place of the pastorate.
Baptist Students’ Fellowship and Youth Fellowship are going to villages in masses to reach souls for Christ at different times during the year under review.
Induction of Pastors and Church Organisation
During the period under review, a total of five (5) pastors were inducted while three (3) churches were organised, and they are functioning well.
Ordination of Pastors
All the ordained candidates approved by the Nigerian Baptist Convention Ordaining Council were ordained during the annual session on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the Goshen Baptist Centre, Ago Are.
Deacons and Deaconesses Ordination
It was also on record that some churches in the Oke Ogun Baptist Conference ordained a new set of deacons and deaconesses to the diaconate ministry to foster Kingdom work in their various churches.
Major ongoing Project
Oke Ogun Baptist Conference laid the foundation of a multi-purpose hall on February 15, 2024, and we are trusting God for funds for a speedy completion.
24TH Annual Session
The Oke Ogun Baptist Conference 24th Annual Session was held from August 11 to 14, 2024, and it was successful. The Conference Executive Committee presented Rev. Dr Gabriel Olanrewaju to the messengers at the Annual Session for approval of his second term in office. The report was unanimously approved and thereby recommended a second term in office as Conference President, which is the renewal of his appointment as Conference President.
Welfare and Humanitarian
First Baptist Church, Ipapo, built a 3-bedroom flat for the widow of her deceased pastor, late Rev. Emmanuel G. Awolade. The house was dedicated on November 12, 2024, and handed over to Mrs. Esther F. Awolade. This gesture is highly encouraged and has been duly reported to the leadership of our great Convention.
Bereavement
On a sad note, we lost some church members to the cold hands of death. Among Pastors, we lost Rev. Michael Taiwo Ojoawo. Until he was called home, he had been the lead Pastor of Temidire First Baptist Church, Komu.
Also, we lost two of our pastors’ wives, Mrs. Funke Amao and Mrs. A. Ayo Folaranmi, who passed on a few days before her husband’s retirement. We commiserate with all families for their losses. May the Lord comfort and uphold the families and relatives they left behind in Jesus’ mighty name.
Our Challenges
Due to the prevalent economic hardship and insecurity in the country, many social vices are being witnessed in our area in contemporary times. The social evils include kidnapping and banditry; both serve as major factors militating against our members in various towns. Villages and mission churches, so we covet your prayers to overcome these unsolicited menaces.
Conclusion
We thank God for all He enabled us to achieve in 2024, and we sincerely appreciate all our churches that are enthusiastically cooperating with us financially, physically, and spiritually. I pray that God Almighty will be with us as we collaborate for the Kingdom’s growth. The annual report continues here.
