Men Sitting on the Wooden Bench

Jude wrote to the believers to fight for their faith in Christ Jesus. False teachers had entered the church. They misled people about the way of God. They taught people to behave and do as they please. Jude reminded the believers that the apostles of Jesus Christ had warned them earlier about false teachers. He encouraged them to keep themselves in God’s love by praying always. They are to have the love of God and wait for His mercy through Jesus Christ. Introduction

They are to show mercy to those who do not believe in Jesus, by telling them about Him. They must hate sin and save those who are living in sin. Then, God will keep them from falling into sin. They will reign with Him in His glory. We are also among the believers that Jude wrote to. We must be careful of false teachers and live our lives to please God.

We must tell others about Jesus so that they too will reign with Jesus in heaven. This is where you must think of forgiveness when you have discovered any iniquities; God expects true forgiveness from you. When you sin, ask God for serious forgiveness. Tell people about Christ so that they will be saved and always be careful of people who like to sin.

Open Bible

This article is purposed to remind you that Jesus Christ loves you and that the only thing that can hinder your access to Him and His benefits is sin. God knows that you may sin and has provided an avenue for you to receive forgiveness. This can only be done through genuine repentance for your wrongdoings and evil ways.

What is Repentance?

Repentance involves thinking against one’s life and beliefs. It requires a change of mind and a turning from sin. True repentance means ceasing to rely on one’s wisdom and understanding. It requires submitting to God’s wisdom found in Scripture. Repentance can be a difficult one since it goes against human bias and the desire to understand everything. We must believe despite our limitations.

A Five-Step Conversation to Repentance

Step 1: Confession: You need to confess your sins and it shall be well.

Step 2: Acknowledge you were wrong: You need to first acknowledge that you are a sinner.

Step 3: Express regret: Express that you regret all your crimes and iniquities.

Step 4: Commit to change: Pave time for a change from darkness to light, and from sin to righteousness.

Step 5: Ask for forgiveness: Then, ask for forgiveness.

Further reading will give in-depth knowledge. The Bible recorded in the Book of Acts 17: 30, saying “Truly, the times of repentance, God has overlooked, but now commands all men everything to repent.”

Challenges That Come with Repentance

We would not deceive you, to repent and change your evil ways to doing what God commands has its challenges and consequences. Some of these include but are not limited to fear of embarrassment that confessing your evildoings will attract; disappointment from people who once held you in high esteem; fear of shattered self-image; fear of failure; fear of success; fear of family’s response to the confession and change; loss of some benefits once enjoyed.

Consequences of procrastination

If you fail to repent, it also has its consequences. The consequences include:

Untimely death

If you delay the time of your repentance, remember nobody knows what will happen tomorrow. You have to decide today.

Lack of revelation because God’s purpose and plan cannot be revealed to a sinner

God has a good purpose for everyone. But you know what? The purpose of GOD cannot come to reality if you are in sin.

Unfulfilled purpose of God for one’s life as was in the case of Samson

Take the case of Samson that God has something big for. It is because of his sin; that He forfeited all the good things God has in store with. If you are still committing sins, you can forfeit all the good things God has in store for you.

Incurring the wrath of God

God frowns at sins but He loves the sinners. If you are consistent in sins and iniquities, Gog can incur His wrath on you.

Lack of answers to prayers

The Bible recorded that if we are in sin, God will not hear us. It is because God frowns at sins. He may not answer and grant our requests.

How to Overcome the Fear of Repentance

  • Receive Jesus Christ your Lord and personal saviour. Be born again.
  • Be committed to reading the Word of God, meditate on it, and live on it.
  • Ensure you pray daily. Live a life of prevailing prayer.
  • Fellowship with Godly people so that you do not go back into your “vomit”.
  • Allow God to rule your life through the help of the Holy Spirit. Ask for help. Be patient with God, and be obedient to His Will as He guides you by the Holy Spirit.

Nine Steps to True Repentance

These steps are very vital when you want genuine repentance and you want to live a new life in Christ Jesus.

Step 1

Believe in Jesus Christ (Acts 10: 43; 13: 38). There may be no genuine forgiveness if do not believe in Him because He has paid the price for our sins to be forgiven. (Read Isaiah 53: 5; 1 Peter 2: 24; 1 John 3: 5), and he is the one who delivers us from sin (Read Matthew 1: 21; Acts 3: 26; 1 Peter 2: 24).

Step 2

Pray to God for forgiveness (Read 2 Chronicles 7: 14; Psalms 32: 5-6; Jonah 3: 5-10; Acts 8: 22). There is nothing possible aside from prayer. If you pray to God and seek genuine forgiveness with a serious heart. God will see it and forgive you.

Step 3

Confess each sin to God (Read Leviticus 5: 5; Psalms 32: 5; 51: 3-3; Proverbs 28: 13; 1 John 1: 9). With a ready heart, you have to confess your sin and all iniquities. And God will listen, forgive you and draw you to Him.

Step 4

Be sorry for your sin (Read 38: 18; Ecclesiastes 7: 3’ 2 Corinthians 7: 8-11; James 4: 8-10). God will see your heart before He can grant forgiveness because He deals with our thoughts before considering what we say. If God sees our hearts that we are truly sorry for sins we have committed, He will forgive us and He will be happy with us.

Step 5

Forsake the sins (Read Isaiah 1: 16-18; 55:7; Jeremiah 36: 3; Ezekiel 18: 21-22; 2 Timothy 2: 19). The critical step in repentance is the area of forsaking. True repentance comes from forsaking. You may seek repentance without forsaking your sin. That is not the true repentance. True repentance is when you confess and forsake your sin. You must forsake your sin.

Step 6

Disassociate from all associations with the past sin (Read Deuteronomy 9: 21; Joshua 7: 11-12; Isaiah 27: 9; Acts 19: 18-19). If you have truly confessed, you will stay distant from the company and all things that lure you to sins. You are the light now and ungodly things are darkness. You must separate yourself from the darkness.

Step 7

Make restitution where possible (Read Exodus 22: 1-7, Proverbs 6: 30-31; Ezekiel 33: 14-16; Luke 19: 8. There are many crimes you have made when you are in the darkness. You will have to amend your way concerning them, though there are certain crimes you may have opportunities to do the restitution. Whether you do it or not, God has drawn you to Him. Do not go there again.

Step 8

Renew your heart and mind with God’s word (Read 1: 8; Psalm 1: 2; 119: 11, Romans 12: 2; Ephesians 4: 23; Colossians 3: 10; Hebrews 8: 10-12). After the forgiveness has taken place, what can make you grow in the Lord is to read and meditate on the word of God.

Step 9

Obey God’s Word and do good. (Read Isaiah 1: 16-18; Ezekiel 18: 21-22; 33: 14-16; Matthew 7: 24-27; Ephesians 4: 28; James 4: 17). Receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and repenting of your sins is the only way to eternal life, because “All of us have sinned and come short of His glory…” (Read Romans 3: 23.)

Benefits of true repentance

Will you give this a trial? You won’t regret the steps. There are lots of promises and benefits God prepared for His people. However, without repentance, you will not be able to inherit these promises of God. The issue of repentance is an essential part of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Repentance, therefore, is vital for salvation and growth in holiness.

Also, the atonement by the blood of Jesus Christ will become fully effective in your life. The Lord will forgive you all your sins. You will be from bondage of your sins and its effects. You will find joy and enjoy all the goodness that God has purposed for His people. You will be blessed.

Conclusion

God desires every sinner’s repentance (Read Ezekiel 18: 30, 32: 2 Peter 3: 9). When this is done, heaven rejoices over one sinner who repents (Read Luke 15: 10). You understand that another opportunity is now for a wise decision. Do not harden your heart or refuse to repent by believing the devil’s lies about repentance. We leave you with the Word of God in Acts 2: 38 saying, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of sins, and you  will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
