Eternity defines man’s imagination and comprehension. It is not an object, not a place; it is not a period. Eternity does not have the beginning and it does not have the end.

The Word eternity is used in Isaiah 57:15 where it states that God inhabits eternity. He is eternal, with no beginning and no end. As it is described God knows everything because man does have the beginning but his/her soul does not have the end.

The dictionary agrees with the Bible that eternity is a duration without end; the state into which the soul passes at death and in which remains forever and ever. You can read similar posts on our Bible teaching page of the site.

Introduction

The opening statement of the Bible, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth”(Genesis 1:1), has reference to the creation of the heaven and the earth and all things therein (Colossians 1:16-17). God has decreed that all things shall cease to exist.”

Sunlight With White Clouds

The heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up”(2 Peter 3:10).

Man is a creature of time- he takes time, uses time, and depends on time. His life is controlled by time. We should understand that time does not have any relation to eternity no matter how important it is.

Eternity is unique

Eternity is unique and incomparable. It is a place whose measurable length, breadth, depth or height can be described and determined. No one will have the opportunity to change the eternal destiny chosen in life there. It is everlasting the same.

In all of creation, only man, clothed with a change and immortal body, will make the transition from time into eternity. Man is the only creature who has the “breath of life” (Genesis 2:7) and who lives forever as God does.

Judgement

Judgment is the dividing of the righteous from the final, with neither appeals nor reviews. During man’s relationship with his Creator. Anyone that does not listen to the call of God and receive salvation will receive the final judgment, and then be sent to an eternal punishment on the last day. Those who yield to God in life will have had their sins judged before, while those who did not yield will have their sins follow them into the final judgment (1 Timothy 5:24).

After the judgment, every man shall be rewarded according to the record in the books, including those whose names are in the Book of Life (Revelation 20:12). The term reward is used to recompense your actions and performance whether they are good or evil.

New Dimension of Eternity

Eternity only recognizes two categories of people those who are saved and those who are lost. God will categorise them that way by accepting or rejecting the great salvation for mankind when they are in their earthly life. There are only two destinations in eternity for all people- heaven for the saved and hell for the lost.

To those whose names are found written in the Book of Life, the eternal judge will say, “Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world'(Matthew 25:34); and to those whose names are not in the book, the Judge will say, “Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire .prepared for the devil and his angels”(Matthew 25:41).

Meditation

If a bird would pick up one grain of sand and carry it to the moon, and in that fashion would eventually carry all of the earth away, eternity would still have just begun, the most distressing thought possible.

However, for God and all the holy angels, it will always be welcome Now in life, while there is yet time to prepare, our eternal destiny can be decided. Are you ready for eternity? This question demands your answer in this life. Today is the time to prepare for eternity.

One prepares for this great meeting by accepting Jesus Christ as the Saviour of man, who died on Calvary’s cross for man’s sins and was raised for his justification(Romans 4:25). This acceptance must be more than a mental resolve; it must be a heart matter, a total surrender to God. This also makes one a follower of Jesus- one who walks with Him, obeys his teachings, and is led by His Spirit.

Failing to do so receive Christ will result in eternal banishment from God. Life is too uncertain, death is too sure, and eternity is too long to further risk delay. God’s word is to be accepted.

Read 1 Thessalonians 5:1-10

A pregnant woman went to visit her parents. On her way, she suddenly fell into labour on the commercial bus she boarded. She was taken to the nearest hospital where she gave birth without delay.

People asked her, ’Why are you travelling when you know that the time of your delivery is around the corner? The woman replied:  ‘I didn’t know, my EDD was not close.’  There is no pregnant woman that knows the certain time of her delivery.

The coming of Jesus Christ is like the coming of a baby from a pregnant woman who cannot predict the actual time. However, no matter how insensitive a pregnant woman is when the time of delivery comes, she must experience some signs. Looking at the experiences around us, we must believe that the day of the Lord is getting nearer.

Be reminded of the end-time signs in Matthew 24. Stop sleeping and walking in darkness. Stay awake and expect the coming of the Lord Jesus, for He will come at an unexpected hour. Are you awake and getting prepared for the Bridegroom? How prepared are you for the Lord’s Day? Do not be deceived. Jesus will surely come the second time.

Read Joel 2:28-32.

New things are appealing to human eyes; they are loved, cherished, and celebrated. No wonder, people are battling to acquire new things in life.

The Israelites were deeply involved in sin which attracted God’s judgment on the land – disaster, calamity, plaque and doom. These ugly experiences necessitated a call for national repentance that ushered them into a new salvation.

It was a moment of an outpour of God’s spirit on all people irrespective of their tribe, race, gender or class. Those who are filled with the spirit will prophesy, dream and see visions. This was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost where people from different races were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit and there was instant manifestation of His power.

On the dreadful Day of Judgment, it is only those who are filled with the spirit of God, and those who call on His name will be saved. Our nation is already experiencing God’s wrath due to the prevalence of sin and evil in our days. Life and living is becoming very hard.

The only solution to our predicament as a nation is genuine repentance that will bring in a new salvation. Sin attracts punishment, but true repentance brings forgiveness and salvation
