Yield not to Temptation
Yield not to temptation, for yield
Is sin
Each victory will help you with some other
To win
Fight man fully onward, dark passions
Suddue
Look ever to Jesus. He’ll carry you
Through
Ask the Saviour to help you
Comfort, strengthen, and keep you
He is willing to aid you
He will carry you through
Stanza 1
This stanza warns all Christians that we should not yield to the temptation of sin. All Christians need to pray for victory from the darkness and the man who has power more than we do. It is your inheritance to subdue the camp of darkness.
When the darkness and his agents strike, look unto Jesus, He will help you through; our savior will save you from any evil. Jesus is there for you to comfort you from distress, strengthen you while you are powerless, and keep you from danger He is your helper and He is ready to help you. Jesus will see you through! Listen to the tune of the hymn.
Shun evil companions, bad language
Disdain
God’s name is held in reverence, not
Take it in vain
Be thoughtful and earnest, kind
Hearted and true
Look ever to Jesus. He’ll carry you through
Stanza 2
The stanza two encourages us to set a good example. The writer of the hymn advises all people, especially to desist from evil companies and associates and bad and foul language. We should not call the name of God in vain because the name of God supersedes all other names.
We should give reverence to God, not to call it vain. God is expecting us to be kind, true, thoughtful, good, and earnest. We have to look up to Jesus and He will see us through. When you hold the name of the Lord with respect, He will hold your hand and put you through your way and your way will be rosy.
To him that o’er cometh
A crown
Through faith, we shall conquer
Though often cast down
He who is our Saviour, our strength
Will renew
Look ever to Jesus. He’ll carry you through
Stanza 3
This stanza assures us that those who come to God will receive a crown. A crown is a prize that will be given to those who reign with the Lord when everything ends on this earth. We have to have faith in God. When you have strong faith, you will definitely overcome your challenges.
The writer encourages us to press forward, even if we are cast down because He is our Saviour and our strength. Always look upon Jesus, He will see you through. He has never left his children alone. Jesus will carry you through your challenges, trials, tests, temptations, suffering, childlessness, poverty, afflictions, etc.

They shall shine in their beauty
Bright Gems for His Crown
