Luke 10: 1 “On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus, “Teacher” he replied, “What must I do to inherit the eternal life?”
To God be the glory for another opportunity to proclaim His words and for sustaining us to witness the last Sunday worship in May 2020. May God bless us all through His words today and may Heaven rejoice greatly for many who will surrender all to the Lord Jesus Christ today in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Introduction
Today, by God’s grace, we will examine the pertinent question asked by an expert in the law (Luke 10:25), ‘what can I do to inherit eternal life?’ This man knew the laws of God and even referenced some sections as in Leviticus 19:18 in his conversation with Jesus Christ. He strived to justify himself as knowledgeable with words he exchanged with Jesus.
However, he conspicuously lacked the knowledge of what to do to be saved. This was similar to the experience of Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council who came at night to inquire of Jesus on how to be born again (John 3:1-15). Our Lord Jesus Christ is always ready to make available information to whosoever will call on Him (Jeremiah 33:3).
Meditate
Many are in the church today and so many around us who do not know what can be done to inherit eternal life. Brethren, know that without life, you cannot enter the kingdom of God and the life in Christ Jesus (John 14:6). Read further related posts on our Bible-search page of the site.
The question and answer to what I can do to inherit the kingdom of God may be ambiguous when it is not specific. Several thoughts and answers come to many people’s minds concerning the inheritance of the kingdom of God.
That is why a lot of people think it is because of my only service in the church or through my giving the others. But the man of God has come up with 10 important things everyone must do to inherit the kingdom of God supported by Bible verses.
1. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour

Make open or secret confession with your mouth and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is your Lord (Romans 10:8-10;1 John 5:10-12). You will need to accept the son as a prerequisite to inherit eternal life. You must confess Jesus Christ as Lord to have eternal life. Even at the last minute, it is never too late to accept the lordship of Christ Jesus just like the thief on the cross. (Luke 23:39-43).
2. Know what is written in the Law (God’s word) and Do it

The scribe and the priest, Ezra were ready and determined to know God’s words (Law), live by it and teach others. The world must be able to see Jesus Christ in you as you live by His words. Whosoever does not know God’s word will fail. Jesus Christ told some that, ‘ye err because you did not know the law'(Mathew 22: 23-30).
It is also bad to be a hypocrite when you know God’s word and teach it to others, but you are not living by the word. To walk well in the path of righteousness, you need to know the word of God and live by it.
3. Love God with all your heart (undivided heart)

The response of the man in Luke 10 verse 27 emphasized the need to love God with all our heart You must love God and this will help you to know, thirst and live by God’s word This will propel you to preach the good news to others(2 Corinthians 514-15), The love of God compels us to be reconciled to God and to preach the gospel to others unto salvation.
Also, your love for God should put away idolatry in your life. You cannot love God and serve other gods also. Don’t be likesome In 2 Kings 17:26-33 chat claimed to love God, but are still participating in fetish and idolatry acts, God is never happy with you when you love and worship idols
4. Love the brethren as yourself. (I Peter 2:17;1 Peter 1:22; 1 John 323,1 John 4:20).

Brethren, we are expected to love God with an undivided heart, but also to love our neighbours. Some claim that they love God, but they hate their neighbours. This is false and will not give eternal life.
The Bible also confirmed that you serve God but if you hate your brothers and sisters, your service will not be acceptable. Genuine love is a command. Love should be a sharing manner. As you expect someone to love and care for you, you too should love and care for the people.
5. Attend to the needs of brethren. (Acts 4:33-35)

Strive to take good care of others. Jesus Christ asked those around about who is the neighbour of the wounded man. He said the one who showed him kindness. You are called to demonstrate God’s love to brethren, even to unbelievers. Let there be brotherly love among brethren.
6. Do not turn away from your Faith or deny Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 6:4-6)

When persecution arises against you, stand firm and reject the invitation of Satan. Today, many have forsaken their faith in Christ Jesus. If you are in that position, repent and enjoy God’s mercy. Remember that Jesus faced a lot of persecution and conquered. Prepare for the persecution but do not sin, then pray for a solution. It will be well.
7. Continue to learn God’s word daily.(Eph. 5:25;2 Tim3:15-17;Phil 3:8-11;Mathew 7:24-27)

The word of God cleanses us all from all iniquity and there is a need to continue in God’s words. Timothy knew God’s words right from infancy and this helped him in the ministry God called him to. No matter how fervent and vibrant you are in the Lord without the word of God, you cannot please God. Try to equip yourself daily with the word of God.
8. Do Not Allow Deception (Mathew 24:11-13)

Be determined not to allow anyone to deceive you. Jesus warned us about deception in the last days. To inherit eternal life, do not fall into deception. Learn from Samson the eye of God that fell into the hands of Delilah and became an ordinary man. Run away for deception as Joseph did.
9. Hold firmly to your Faith in Jesus Christ to the End(Heb. 4:14;10:23; Rev 2:25;3:11)

Do not allow the devil to snatch eternal life from you. I pray that by God’s grace, you will not lose eternal life. Many people, even Christians have been compromising their faith because the worldly things or pleasure. Do not desist from your faith; press forward and it shall be well.
10. Do away with sin or flee from sin (Romans 6:12-14; 1 John 3:9)

The devil will strive to corrupt any Christian with sin. Be careful not to give a foothold for sin in your life, but flee from sin and any appearance of evil. Do not yield any part of your body unto sin and sin must not have dominion over you. A child of God should not live in sin for such seeds are not in him or her. Sin brings all forms of calamities (James 1:13-15), eventually death (Romans 6:23).
Conclusion
Be watchful so as not to live in sin and probably be entertained with sin. I pray that God will strengthen you to live above sin and enjoy eternal life as you yield to God always in Jesus’ name, Amen.
